Old Fashioned 5-Minute Frosting
This "old-fashioned" frosting has been a household staple since the early 1900s. To make the unique texture this frosting is known for, egg whites and sugar are combined and beaten over simmering hot water. To achieve more consistent results and eliminate tiresome stirring by hand, we recommend using the Steambowl double boiler attachment. Your frosting is guaranteed to achieve a lighter, fluffier texture every time.
- 4 Large Egg Whites
- 2 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar
- 1 cup of Cold Water
- 1 tsp Cream of Tartar (or Substitute Corn Syrup)
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- Steambowl helps you reach a consistent temperature and achieve the right consistency every time. Simply follow the start instructions and combine all your ingredients together in your Steambowl. Beat on a medium setting for 5 minutes until the icing forms stiff peaks.
- When the mixture has reached your desired consistency, turn the Steambowl to off and keep mixing on a low setting until the frosting has cooled.
